Men, Martians, and Machines

Last night I finished reading Men, Martians, and Machines by Eric Frank Russell. It was a collection of short stories about the space ship Marathon. Overall, the stories had the same ending, but with a different setting. The seven foot robot Jay Score was the hero. Half the crew were humans and the other half were Martians that loved to play chess. The book was somewhat dated by the attitudes of the first person voice and the words picked to describe the events. It seemed a little repetitious at times.
